William Howard Mandigo, 85, of Stowe died on Monday, February 5, 2024 after a long illness with his daughter Susan at his side. He was born on June 4, 1938 to Howard and Marguerite (Cushing) Mandigo.
William graduated from Stowe High School in 1956. After two years with the Mount Mansfield Ski Patrol, he purchased Bill's Shell Station in 1959. Bill operated many businesses over the years, the last being his carpet business. In 1959 he married Carole Garand and settled in Stowe to raise their four children; Jayne (and Jack) Eaton of Fair Haven, James (and Lisa) Mandigo of Morrisville, Stephen (and Debbie) Mandigo of Wolcott, and Susan Finn (and Scott Norton) of Morrisville. He also leaves many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Some of William's hobbies included building race car engines and watching them compete in races. His sons followed in his love for the sport. He also built a camp on Lake Champlain which has become a favorite family vacation spot. His last passion was his antique, 1949 Chevy Firetruck which he loved putting in the Stowe Antique Car Parade.
A graveside service will be held on May 6, 2024 at the Riverbank Cemetery in Stowe at 11am for family and friends. Arrangements are with the des Groseilliers Funeral Home. Condolences and memories of Bill may be shared with his family at dgfunerals.com.
