Walter “Rusty” Churchill, a lifelong resident of Cabot, Vermont, passed away on August 25, 2025, at his family home in Cabot.
Born on October 28, 1952, in Cabot, Rusty was the son of Pauline and Percy Churchill. Deeply rooted in his hometown, he dedicated his life to serving his community through hard work and
quiet strength.
Rusty spent much of his career working as a farmer and with the Cabot Highway Department. Whether tending to the land or maintaining the roads that connected neighbors and friends, he approached every task with diligence and humility. His work ethic reflected his character: honest, humble, and kind.
He found great joy in helping on the family farm and cherished every moment spent with his wife, sons and grandchildren. These simple pleasures brought him deep fulfillment and were a testament to the values he held dear: family, community, and service.
Rusty was a steadfast presence in the lives of those around him—a rock for many friends, family members, and neighbors who relied on his quiet support and unwavering dependability.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years of marriage Mary Lisabeth Churchill; sons Joseph Churchill, Vincent Churchill, and John Churchill; daughters-in-law Carol Churchill and Emily Churchill; brothers Melvin Churchill, Fred Churchill, and Andy Churchill; and grandchildren Madison Churchill, Wesley Churchill, Asher Churchill, Jaxson Churchill, Jason O’Brien, Grace Valle, and
Audrey Valle.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday September 28, 2025 from 11am to 2pm at the Cabot Town Hall, Main Street, Cabot, VT.
Rusty's legacy of kindness and quiet strength will live on in all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to those who loved him.
