Todd W. Holmes, age 67, of Hardwick, VT died suddenly on Friday of cardiac arrest while on his way to the hospital. While living in Salem, MA during the blizzard of 1978, Todd and Sue decided they wanted to move to Vermont - a place that knew how to deal with snow. Todd farmed in Hardwick and Craftsbury for several years then went on to work for Frank Pinette where he picked up the plumbing trade. He went back to school and became a Master Plumber and started Holmes Plumbing. He spent most of his time working the camps around Caspian Lake where he built many lifelong friendships.
In his youth Todd was a musician. He played the drums and even sang in a band. He continued to enjoy music and could often be seen tapping out a beat during his many hours on the road to and from job sites. Todd was an active member of AA, sharing his experience, strength, and hope with many people during his 36 years of sobriety. He was a long time volunteer at the Hardwick Area Food Pantry. He loved to golf and was an avid cyclist and supporter of the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail - both hobbies that he shared with his grandchildren whenever he could.
Always courteous and compassionate, he gave of himself without ever expecting anything in return. Todd loved and was truly loved and cherished by all of his family and many,
many friends.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Susan Holmes. His four children and their spouses Lauren Ridgway and Don Bashaw of Cambridge, VT, Matt and Michele Ridgway of Clarksville, TN, Josh and Karen Holmes of Hardwick, VT, Naomi and Travis Blodgett of Moretown, VT. Six Grandchildren, Tanya and Nathan Bashaw, Connor and Victoria Ridgway, and Erica and Sawyer
Holmes. His four siblings Rotha Filtranti, Tim Holmes, Glenn (Caren) Holmes, David (Sheryl) Holmes, and Miguel (Jenifer) Granger. A gathering was held in memory of Todd on Monday May, 27th. Donations can be made to the Hardwick Area Food Pantry.
