Susan Sevigny Deuso, age 68, passed away peacefully on July 23rd, 2025 surrounded by her family at the McClure Miller Respite House following a courageous battle with cancer.
Susan was born in St. Johnsbury, Vermont on May 29th, 1957 to Marylene Sevigny (Frye) and Walter Sevigny Jr. Four years later, her sister, and best friend, Kathy arrived to complete the family of four. After graduating from Danville High School in 1975, she attended Champlain College and went on to work at NVRH, Metropolitan Insurance, Citizens Bank and Union Bank. She served as a Director on the Vermont Electric Co-op from 1997 - 2009, taking over her husband Bryan’s position after his passing. Her most fulfilling career was the 17 years she spent working in the office at Eden Central School followed by Lamoille Union High School. Her “kids” brought her boundless joy and left an indelible mark on her heart.
She married Calvin H. Conover in 1977, and while this relationship wasn’t permanent, they shared two beautiful children together, Ryan and Cynthia. She met Bryan E. Deuso of Eden Mills and moved to his home, and in 1994, their beautiful daughter Ashley arrived. In 1995, she was stricken with a rare illness, Guillain-Barré Syndrome, which required several months in the hospital and rehabilitation. While in rehab, she was a cheerleader for fellow patients, often encouraging them to exceed their therapists’ expectations and celebrating their successes with them. While her illness left her with some permanent challenges, she returned home and persevered. In 1997, her husband Bryan sadly passed away from cancer. She later met her partner Patrick K. Cray, and after 15 years together, he passed away suddenly. She will be remembered as the strong and fiercely independent woman that she was. Her life brought many hardships, but she always handled them with grace and positivity.
Susan loved crafting - knitting, sewing, needlework. She truly enjoyed sewing face masks with fun patterns for people during the COVID 19 pandemic. In the springtime, Susan’s favorite season, she could be found in her garden, tending to her flowers and planting vegetables or blowing bubbles with her grandkids. She found enjoyment in watching the birds that frequented her feeders. Summers would include trips to Maine with family and friends as Maine held special memories of camping from her childhood and later with her own children. She loved the ocean. Above all, Susan cherished her family and the time she spent with them, whether it was traveling to fun destinations or cooking a meal for them at home. She took special joy in being a mother and, especially, a grandmother. She often reminded family and friends that her grandchildren were her life and how much she adored them.
Susan was predeceased by her second husband Bryan E. Deuso in 1997, her soulmate and partner of 15 years Patrick K. Cray in 2015, her mother Marylene Sevigny in 2017, and special friend Audrey Hearne in 2019. She is survived by her father Walter Sevigny; children Ryan Conover (Rhonda), Cindy Doherty (Matt) and Ashley Deuso; grandchildren Dylan, Destiny (Mel), Anthony, Ada, and Thomas; sister Kathy Linkovich (Stan), nephew Will Linkovich (Mandy), niece Alli Linkovich; special cousin Barb Sweet (Dan) and many cousins and beloved friends who will never forget the love she brought to their lives.
Visiting hours will take place at the des Groseilliers Funeral Home on August 4th from 4 pm to 7 pm. A graveside service will be held at the Eden Cemetary at 10 am on August 5th.
As part of her final wishes, Susan requested that donations be made to the Lamoille Area Cancer Network or the St. Jude’s organization in lieu of flowers.
Susan’s family would like to thank the incredible staff at the McClure Miller Respite House and friends who sent cards and letters during her illness. Learning of the ways she touched others’ lives has been a source of comfort to her family.
