Rose M. (Gargiulo) Snow - Mom/Grandma/Great-Grandma/Aunt Rose - passed away at her home in Stowe on Tuesday, June 18th, 2024, two months into her 96th year. Born in Summit, NJ to Italian immigrants in 1929, she survived her 6 siblings.
Rose came to Stowe as a nanny for the Charlie Daly family in 1947 during the two summers after graduating from high school. She worked in an office back in New Jersey, but the corporate environment didn’t suit her, so she packed her belongings and moved to Stowe permanently. Rose married Walter Snow Jr., a farmer and 5th generation Stowe native, in 1953 and started her new life. The two were married for 57 years prior to his passing in 2010.
Rose was probably most known for her renowned creemee stand and snack bar, Snow’s Frosty, located on Route 100 north of town, which she ran for 25 years. In the offseason and after selling the business in 1984, she worked as a Hot Lunch Lady at school. Upon her retirement, she took up golf and enjoyed playing with “the ladies” at the Copley Country Club. Even after major heart surgery at age 70, she rarely used a cart when she played. Her similarly determined group of longtime local friends who, to this day, still live as independently as possible, get together for birthdays and lunches out - and did so as recently as Rose’s 95th this past April.
Rose knew how to work hard and shared this work ethic with her two daughters while running her own business and helping with the Snow’s 100+ acre vegetable farm by picking, selling and putting up vegetables for family meals. Her homemade spaghetti sauce, seasonal pies and biscuits for strawberry shortcake are particularly remembered fondly! Rose also enjoyed knitting, cross stitch and quilting during her winter free time. Each of her two grandchildren are blessed with large quilts she made for them.
Rose leaves behind two daughters, Wendy (and husband Bob Parrish) of Morrisville, and Donna of Stowe. Also, a granddaughter, Katie (and husband Adam Blauer and children Hunter and Rowen) of Lexington, MA and a granddaughter, Betsy (and husband Jonathan Gunby, great-granddaughter Carolyn and a not-yet-born baby boy) of New London, NH; a sister-in-law, Kay Snow (and partner Paul Nesky) of Hyde Park and many nieces and nephews who live all over the world.
There will be a graveside service at the Riverbank Cemetery in Stowe on Monday, July 1st at 1:00 with a reception to follow at the Snow’s home, 2001 Pucker St., Stowe. Arrangements are with the des Groseilliers Funeral Home. Online condolences and memories of Rose may be shared with her family at dgfunerals.com.
