Philip A. Dickson, 64 of Hardwick, passed away on August 7, 2024 at his home. He courageously battled heart disease and kidney disease.
Philip was born on May 18, 1960 to Lawrence and Elizabeth (Norton) Dickson at Griffin Hospital in Derby, Connecticut. He moved from Connecticut to Vermont, and completed 9th grade at Hazen Union. He went to work as a Heavy Equipment Operator in construction soon after. He worked for many years with his father, brothers and uncles. He loved telling stories of construction jobs, and always crediting his dad for teaching him. He also drove truck from Canada to Boston hauling liquid oxygen for a short time. Philip, better known as just “Phil”, loved hunting and being out in the woods. In the winter, he was out snowmobiling with friends and family. He loved spending time with his horses. He had two favorite dogs: Bella and Lucy. Phil was a friend to many, and was always there to lend a hand to anyone who asked. He was well known for his excavation skills. Phil had a sense of humor, and was known to pull pranks at times. He loved a good laugh. Phil believed in living life to the fullest, and that included enjoying a cold beer.
Survivors include his mother, Elizabeth “Betty” Dickson of Greensboro; brothers, Lawrence R. Dickson Jr. and wife Linda of Barre, and John A. Dickson and companion Peggy Burbank of Wolcott; sisters, Debbie (Dickson) LaCasse and husband Brian of East Hardwick; Sandra Dickson of Waterbury, CT, Joann (Dickson) LaCasse and husband Gregory of Greensboro Bend; nephews, John L Dickson of Barre, Adam Tendler and husband Franchesco Simone Savi of New York City, NY; nieces, Christine Papineau and husband Larry of East Hardwick, Liza LaCasse and companion Joe Gagne of Stark, NH, Elizabeth M. Dickson of Greensboro Bend, Megan Martinez and husband John of Clifton, NJ, Charmi Dickson and wife Itsha of Bristol, CT, Candace Lam and husband Vince of San Diego, CA, Vanesa Tendler of Las Vegas, NV; great-niece Harley Papineau and great-nephew Dylan Papineau.
Phil also leaves his extended family Janet Norton of Beacon Falls, CT; William and Joan Norton of Naugatuck, CT; Maryellen Norton of Naugatuck, CT; and several cousins.
He was predeceased by his father Lawrence R. Dickson Sr; sister, Patricia A. Dickson; niece, Courtney Dickson.
The family will be honoring Phil’s wishes by not having any public services. Because of his love for dogs and horses, a donation can be made in his memory to a local humane society.
