Patrick Joseph Reen, of Hyde Park, passed away peacefully at The Manor Care Home on his 88th birthday, May 22nd, 2025.
Patrick was born to the late William and Hannah (Barrett) Reen in Brooklyn, New York on May 22, 1937. Patrick was one of thirteen children and he was the eldest son. He had eleven siblings follow after him, five more brothers and six more sisters. He was raised and worked in New York City and later followed family to Vermont in 1982.
Pats working career started with The Commodore Hotel in New York City for several years as an elevator operator (doorman), then tried a career in manufacturing which he decided wasn’t for him, then he worked with his Uncle John Barrett at New York Airways as a Maintenance Technician until he moved to Vermont. In Vermont he started a new career with the State of Vermont Buildings Department working in the Supreme Court Building as a facility operator. He also worked for the United States Postal Service as a custodial contractor.
Pat was a devoted brother, uncle and cousin to many, many, generations-right around 255 or so. Working for New York Airways in his younger years, Pat explored the world with everlasting memories with his family. He was a devoted Yankees fan through and through and didn’t care if you loved the Red Sox, he didn’t! If there was a card game going on he’d have a seat at the table. We had a family saying, “Deal me in” and that’s what we did. He loved his Sunday card games with the boys and his trips to the casino with everyone. He cherished time with family and truly enjoyed the youngsters.
Pat had set a goal and wanted to reach his 88th birthday and that’s exactly what he did! He arrived and departed this world on the same day.
Pat just had his 88th birthday celebration with his remaining six siblings, his sisters; Christina (Reen) Tricomi and Mary (Reen) Fagnant, and his brothers; John, William and wife Georgia, Richard and wife Diane, Thomas and wife Patricia, sister in-law Wanda Reen and brother in-law Tim Riordan. Pat was predeceased by his parents William and Hannah, sisters Catherine, Joan, Margaret, Shelia, Jane and his brother Jerome. His sister in-law, Penny Reen, bothers in-laws Santo Tricomi, Arthur Fagnant and William Boland.
Pats family couldn’t be more grateful to the staff at The Manor for the excellent care he received. Crystal, Pete & Sergio kept him in great conversation and song and the incredible nursing staff, Shannon, Ken, Brian and others that made Pat comfortable and cared for. To all the staff at the Manor, we appreciate everything you did to keep Pat comfortable and happy. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Manor Employee Fund at 577 Washington Highway, Morrisville, VT 05661.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at Most Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 301 Brooklyn Street, Morrisville.
