Merton Edward McLean

Eden - Merton E. (Eddie) McLean, age 62, of Eden passed away August 13, 2024 at Copley Hospital. He passed peacefully surrounded by the love and light of his family. Eddie had a courageous 10 month battle with metastatic esophageal cancer and fought bravely until the very end. 
     Eddie was born at Copley hospital in Morrisville, Vermont on February 22, 1962 to Ronald and Mary McLean of Eden, Vermont. He attended Eden Elementary and graduated from Lamoille Union High School in 1980. He married his high school sweetheart, and love of his life, Carolyn Griggs, on August 6, 1983 at the Craftsbury United Church. They were blessed with three beautiful children; Tyler, Kyle, and Heather. 
     Eddie spent his life working hard as a master carpenter. He worked for both Trim Conklin and Jeff Emerson, whom he thought the world of. 
     Eddie loved playing sports as a young man. He had a passion for softball and was an amazing third baseman. He was also passionate about hunting deer and rabbits, the outdoors and spending time at Ralphie's camp on Cooper Hill with his closest friends and family. 
     Eddie loved his family with all his heart and they were his world. He taught his children about respect, honesty, kindness, and hard work. He lit up with love at the sight of his grandchildren. 
     Eddie and Carolyn enjoyed camping, laughter filled vacations to Myrtle Beach with their closest friends and family, attending their children's sporting events, spending time with their grandchildren, and their long car rides together. Eddie also enjoyed spending time with his 
special buds Billy Ray, Billy Bob and Bubba, which were filled with shenanigans and laughter. 
     Eddie had a special love and bond with his parents, and looked forward to his daily early morning rides around town with his father throughout his illness. He also enjoyed time spent with his wife, kids and grandkids at camps on the lake over the last couple years. 
     His latest passion was doing projects in his new workshop, including special keepsakes for his children, grandchildren, Carol, Becky and his wife. 
     Eddie is survived by his wife of 41 years, Carolyn McLean of Eden. He is survived by his son Tyler McLean and his fiancé, Angie Cota of Eden, Kyle McLean, and his wife, 
Jaime McLean of Eden, and his daughter, Heather Severcool, and her husband, Clayton Severcool of Hardwick. Eddie is survived by his grandchildren Tegan McLean of Eden and Jaelyn and Hannah Severcool of Hardwick. He is survived by his parents, Ronald and Mary McLean of Eden, his three sisters, Julie, Trudy, and Sherry, as well as their spouses and many nieces, nephews and extended family. 
     A funeral will be held at Craftsbury United Church on Thursday, August 29th at 10:00am followed by the burial at Eden Corner Cemetery. 
     After the services there will be a BBQ and celebration of life at Eddie and Carolyn's house for friends and family to celebrate the beautiful life of Merton E. McLean. Please feel free to bring something to share.
