Mafalda Freedman Obituary

WALDEN-  Mafalda Pagano Freedman, 98, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, January 14.  Born on March 4, 1920 in Torrington, CT, she recently moved to Walden to be with family.  She is predeceased by her husband, Paul E. Freedman, after 70 years of marriage.  “Muffy” was a waitress for several restaurants in Torrington and succeeded to Banquet Manager at the Yankee Peddler Conley Inn where she served for 40 years.   She and Paul enjoyed many years of ball room dancing, first taking lessons, then giving lessons and then winning trophies in competition.  She is survived by her son, Dennis Lee Freedman in Torrington, and daughter, Linda Scharrenberg & husband, Creed Scharrenberg of East Hardwick; granddaughter, Jodi Meyers, Walden; and three great-grandchildren, Hunter Beer, Emily and Ashley Gates.   

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on February 2 at the First Congregational Church of East Hardwick, 123 Church Street, E. Hardwick.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to:  First Congregational Church of East Hardwick, PO Box 142, E. Hardwick, VT, 05836, or to the Torrington Historical Society, 192 Main Street, Torrington, CT 06790, or to “Torrington Christmas Village”, c/o City Hall, 140 Main Street, Torrington, CT 06790.
