Louis LaFountain Obituary

Louis Francis LaFountain, 64, passed away peacefully on Feb.5,2026 at North Country Hospital following a long battle with health issues. He lived in Eden for the last several years. Louis (Lou or Louie as most of us knew him.) was born Dec. 18, 1961 in Morrisville to Laurette Compagna) and Francis LaFountain Sr. He graduated from Peoples Academy in Morrisville and pursued various jobs throughout his life. He lived in California and Florida for some time early on in life, eventually living most of his life in Vermont.

Louis earned a Bachelor of Science degree at Woodbury College in 2005 and continued on to receive a degree of Master of Criminal Justice from Boston University in 2009. In Lou's latter years he owned and ran a hardware store in Eden and prior to that helped his brother manage the Eden General Store.

Lou was a devoted Catholic, leaning on the Lord even more so in later years. Lou's cross was a burden too heavy to carry anymore so the Lord freed him of his burden. Lou had numerous friends in life and it would be hard to name them all but two childhood friends that meant a lot to him were Wayne Lanphear and Mike Edson. In better times Lou enjoyed playing guitar and "jammin" out with his friends. Lou always looked forward to deer season in Vermont and enjoyed hunting and socializing with other hunters.

Lou could be a character at times like the time he was a kid and made a cut out of Bigfoot feet using wood and strapped them on his feet running around the neighborhood leaving fresh tracks in the snow to amuse the neighbors. Or, telling a story claiming to have seen Bigfoot one evening after deer hunting in Brownsville. Hard telling not knowing if that one is true.

Lou is survived by his daughter Megan Manning and grandson Aidan and granddaughter Madyson. He also leaves his brother Francis LaFountain Jr. and his wife Minda, two nephews Matthew and Noah LaFountain, his sister Sheila LaFountain, niece Heather Moore and husband Dustin as well as three great nieces Carly, Vicki, and Thea Moore.

Viewing hours are Friday Feb.13,2026 at Most Holy Name of Jesus Church in Morrisville from 3:30-5PM.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday Feb.14,2026 at 11AM at Most Holy Name of Jesus Church. A gathering for light food and drink at the Crosby Center behind the church after service.
