Lawrence "Larry" Reed Obituary

Lawrence "Larry" Reed died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on August 26, 2024 at Copley Hospital. He was born on June 22, 1948 to Ralph and Ada Reed in Wolcott, one of seven children.

Larry worked pridefully for many years as a stone cutter in the Barre Granite Sheds and was also a hard-working farmer. He made time for fun, however, and will be remembered for his love of dancing and even recently learned to square dance.

Larry adored his family and they him. His nephew, Patrick offers these words of remembrance on behalf of the family: Larry was truly one of a kind, a hard-working man who served in the Vietnam War and continued to put others first throughout his life. Later on in life, Larry married my aunt, becoming an uncle to me when I was in high school. He welcomed our family with open arms and a kind heart. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, even when I had nothing to give in return. Larry's selflessness and ability to make everyone feel welcome is something I want to emulate in my own life. He never met a stranger and maintained his composure, even in hard times. Larry's kindness to others and service to our great Nation will be missed by our entire family. To honor his memory, go out and perform an act of kindness for someone, without expecting anything in return. He made a significant impact on our lives even if we did not recognize it at the time, but the saying goes, you don't know what you've got until it's gone. May he rest in peace, knowing that his legacy lives on through the positive impact he had on those around him.

Larry was predeceased by his parents Ralph and Ada, his siblings; Florence Peck, Leonard Reed, Linda Clark, Marilyn Dickson and George Dyke. He was also predeceased by his sons Justin Reed and Lawrence "Sonny" Reed as well as his step-daughter Jessica and grandson Justin.

He is survived by his wife Kim Reed, his sister Evelyn, step-sisters Betty Bocash and Judy Manning, step-daughters Heather and Ashley as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews. Larry also leaves his beloved dogs Tinker and Jack and four cats.

A celebration of Larry's life will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2024 from 12pm-4pm at the American Legion Post #7 in Hardwick.
