Larry Gendron Obituary

Larry Joseph Gendron, 76, left his earthly dwelling to join his parents.  He passed away Monday, July 14th at the home of his sister and respite provider, Sandra Gendron.  He was born in Burlington, Vermont, on February 12, 1949 to his parents Mildred (Rockwell) and Edmund Gendron.

Larry was hospitalized at the age of two months with spinal meningitis which left him unable to hear or speak.  He attended the Austine School for the Deaf in Brattleboro, Vermont before being transferred to the Brandon Training School in Brandon, Vermont where he resided until he was placed in a group home in Rutland, Vermont. He was later relocated to the Northeast kingdom to be closer to his family where he had numerous home and respite providers whom he loved dearly. The family wishes to thank his most recent home care provider, Carol Boivin, who lovingly shared her home in Hyde Park with our brother for 15 years.

Larry had a loving personality, never met a stranger he didn’t like and was a child at heart. He could easily melt our hearts with his excitement, his joy of life and love for everything family. He leaves an immeasurable empty place in our hearts. Larry enjoyed playing Connect Four, going out for creemees, going for drives, being with his family, swimming, bowling, and participating in Special Olympics.

Larry was predeceased by his parents.  He is survived by his nine siblings:  David Gendron and wife, Elaine; Linda Perry; Deborah Brown and husband, Ronald; Mary Jane Fradette and husband, Mario; Michael Gendron and wife, Ruth; Janet Davis and husband, Edward; Brenda Barton and husband, Tom; Sandra Gendron and partner, Elwin Sheltra; and Carol Slayton and husband, Edward. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and his paternal Aunt Marion Howard of Burlington.

A graveside service in Larry's honor will be held on Saturday, July 19th, at 10am in Fairview Cemetery, Hardwick with a reception to follow at the Hardwick American Legion, Post #7.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Special Olympics Vermont, 16 Gregory Dr #2, South Burlington, VT 05403.
