Joyce Cynthia (Gundry) Thomas, 85, passed away peacefully at her home in Wolcott, Vermont on Wednesday, November, 19 2025 surrounded by her loving family. Joyce was born in Barre, Vermont on March 14, 1940 to Thomas and Doris (Badger) Gundry, and was raised with her six siblings in Southington, Connecticut.
Joyce and her husband Bill moved to Stowe in 1969, making their way in a very tight economy. Joyce took care of her children, supporting them in their endeavors like being a den leader and a Sunday school teacher. Fun back then included driving the back roads, hikes to Moss Glen Falls, and swimming in Sterling Valley. Seasonal fun included Sandbar Beach, cross-country skiing, and fiddlehead picking. During this time Joyce started drying flowers and making cards to sell at local businesses.
With the family's move to Morrisville, Joyce had a space which allowed her to push on with her dream of having an antique shop. Years of going to garage sales, flea markets, and antique shops brought her dream to life, The Timeless Carousel was opened. Expeditions to Quebec, Pennsylvania, and other distant places were frequent. There was never a trip to Cocoa Beach or Portland that didn't yield some sort of find.
When Joyce and Bill moved to Wolcott, Joyce loved the beauty of Elmore Mountain, the wildlife, and her new house. She loved decorating and creating warm spaces with touches of history, whether it be at home or in a booth in an antique shop. Flowers were an important part of this, inside and outside the house, sometimes picked from her perennial gardens.
The most important part of her life was her love of Jesus, her faith. She loved going to church so she could worship God with her beautiful voice. Faith is something that would always come up when she was visiting with people, it didn't matter if they were close or new acquaintances. She had a deep love for the Lord Jesus Christ.
Joyce is survived by her husband of 56 years William Thomas, her daughter Michelle of Wolcott, and son William (Pedro Mendia Landa) of Stowe/Connecticut and was predeceased by her beloved sons Robert of Westbrook, Maine and Shawn of Cheshire, Connecticut. She leaves behind her uncle, James Badger (Pam) of Maine, her siblings Marjorie Weston (Keith) of New Hampshire, Donna Zeman, and Anthony Gundry of Connecticut, and she was predeceased by her siblings Thomas Gundry, Marian Alferi, and Gloria Marosz.
A service will be held at the Lamoille Valley Church of the Nazarene in Johnson, Vermont on Saturday, November 29th at 12PM. Visiting hours will be before the service at 11AM, and weather permitting, burial will be at Pleasant View Cemetery, Morrisville after the service.
