Jane (Howard) Martinet

We are deeply saddened by the sudden and unexpected loss of our favorite sister and aunt, Jane, who died in the early hours of Tuesday, January 21st in her home in Stowe, Vermont.

Jane was a wonderful friend and family member to all! She loved to laugh, explore and always said yes to any opportunity that came her way. She had many wonderful friends she spoke of often that will miss her greatly. Jane never shied away from engaging with people and sharing her life with those she loved most.

She was born in Hingham, Massachusetts. She was the beloved daughter of Evelyn and Lawrence Howard and the younger sister of Sally (Howard) Maxwell.  She attended high school at Thayer Academy in Braintree.  Afterwards she went off to New Jersey to attend Centenary University.  Upon graduating in 1967, Jane moved to Boston to work at Boston University in the International Student Center and with the original “Boston Patriots” football team in their ticketing office, the year before they became a part of the NFL. Her love for travel led her to a 35-year career with American Airlines as a flight attendant. This decision gave her the opportunity to live in Dallas, Chicago, and eventually Stowe where she would ultimately call home. Montreal became her base city, and she continued her career flying internationally. Her infectious smile and positivity were appealing to many and she always had friends to visit no matter where in the world she was! 

In 1990, she decided to take a winter season off to “ski bum” in Stowe, where she met a local French chef, Michel Martinet, who would eventually become her husband in the summer of 1992. Upon retirement in 2005, Jane and Michel enjoyed traveling to France, vacationing on the beaches of Florida and islands of the Caribbean. Jane also had many hobbies, specifically, collecting miniatures for her dollhouses she would adorn with electricity and all the amenities of a home through the varied seasons – they are truly works of art! 

She is survived by her sister, Sally Maxwell, of South Portland, Maine, Larry and Charlotte Maxwell, Sarah Maxwell, Susan and Guy Daniello and Anne and Adam Hemeon, 10 grand nieces and nephews, and Michel’s 4 daughters and their families: Danielle and Jamey Magowan and their daughter, Brianna, Monica Martinet, Francine and Craig Duckworth and Nicole Ledbetter. Jane had a vibrance to her that we will never forget. She had an enormous heart for those she loved. She was a beautiful person inside and out and we will miss her!

Graveside services will be held on Thursday May 8, 2025 at 10 am at the Riverbank Cemetery in Stowe, Vermont.
