Jane Greaves Obituary

WALDEN- Jane C. Greaves, 89, passed away on October 24, 2018 at the Greensboro Nursing Home. She was born in Cabot, Vermont on March 25, 1929 to Albert Carlton and Agnes (Pike) Carlton.

Growing up, Jane lived in several states as her father worked for the Federal Government in the fish hatcheries. At the age of twelve, she was settled in Cabot and lived there through high school. After high school she went to work in Concord, MA. At the age of twenty she traveled through Europe by bicycle.

On October 25, 1949 Jane married Frank Greaves and they purchased a farm in Walden Heights. After Frank passed away in 2005, Jane continued to live on their farm for a total of 65 years. Jane married into farm life and quickly learned dairy farming. She had a green thumb and had beautiful flower gardens and a large vegetable garden. Jane enjoyed canning, making jam, and cooking for her family. Her other hobbies included quilting, crocheting, reading, and she was a whiz at crossword puzzles. In August of 2015 Jane became an assisted living resident at the Craftsbury Community Care Center where she made many good friends.

Jane is survived by her children; Daphne Greaves of Illinois, Peter (and Kelley) Greaves of Walden, Emma (and Dennis) Pudvah of Hardwick, and daughter-in-law Kim Greaves of Greensboro Bend. Jane also leaves behind seven grandchildren; Holly, Jenne, Eric, and Justin Greaves, David Pudvah, Miranda (and Jared) Cloutier, and Erin (and Andy) Gibbs as well as four great-grandchildren. Jane was predeceases by her brother, James Carlton in 2009 and her son, Stephen in 2012.

A funeral service will be held on November 3, 2018 at the des Groseilliers Funeral Home in Hardwick with visitation beginning at 10am followed by prayers with Chaplain Alden Launer at 11:00. The burial will be held directly after services at the family cemetery in Walden. Donations in Jane’s memory may be made to the Craftsbury Community Care Center, 1784 East Craftsbury Road, Craftsbury, VT 05826.
