He was born in Whatley, Massachusetts to Frank and Mary (Savoiy) Vaillancourt on July 21, 1931. He attended school in Cummington, Massachusetts and after graduating in 1949 Frank attended a Massachusetts school of radio and television in Boston, took up welding, worked in the shipyards, and obtained his certification to work on boilers. He loved children and always told them to “get a good education and it will serve you well.”

Frank was drafted by the Army in 1951 serving in combat during the Korean War until 1953 when he returned to the United States. He later married Dorothy Hillinbrand in 1955 with whom he had six children; Frank Jr., David, Linda, Diane, Cheryl and Sandy.  He married a second time to Jeanne Leonard in 1974 and his son James was born. Frank would go on to marry Katherine Joyal Brown from Marshfield, VT in 1989 while he was working at the Woodstock Inn in Woodstock, VT as a watch engineer where he stayed until retirement in 2006 when he underwent a heart surgery involving valve replacements in Massachusetts.

Following retirement, Frank and Katherine moved to her home in Marshfield, VT.  He was an avid reader and enjoyed fixing antique radios and cars, often sharing his love of antique cars with his friend, Matt Maya.  He would travel to Crown Point, NY to spend hours fishing and enjoyed taking his grandson, Stephen Luce and Michelle Brown and anyone else wishing to go with him.  Frank was a member of the VFW and American Legion in Montpelier, VT as well as the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Brattleboro, VT and the Jacque Joyal Family Reunion in VT.
