Charlene Candace (Sweetser) Rooney, the matriarch of the Rooney Farm in Mud City, passed away on December 8th. Charlee was an organic dairy farmer, horse lover, and an expert dahlia grower. She was known for her quick wit, generosity, strong work ethic, sense of humor, and fierce love of her family. She was a free spirit.
Charlee is survived by her husband of fifty-four years, David Rooney, her twin daughters Siri and Selina Rooney, son-in-law Roger Marcoux, grandchildren Sampson Alley, Clara Alley, Adele Marcoux, and Myles Marcoux, her sister Jerrilyn Swersky, her beloved cat Marty, and many close friends, family members, and neighbors. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy.
Charlee and Dave were an inspiration to watch on the dance floor (or a table top). Charlee was also an avid reader and was a dedicated member of the Mud City Book Group for over twenty years. She loved family trips to Playa del Carmen, Nordic skiing, riding her bike,
family game nights, hosting pond parties, music (particularly Elvis and Willie), and Saturday night spaghetti dinner with the family after barn chores. Charlee truly loved all creatures great and small, having a special appreciation for her cows, especially the cows who showed their personality by being naughty. This love was visible in her uncanny ability to sense and feel when something was not right and they needed extra help.
A celebration of life will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers please send donations to NCAL or Lamoille Home Health and Hospice.
