Alfred Ceppetelli Obituary

Alfred Guido Ceppetelli, 88 of Johnson, VT, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2024 surrounded by loved ones. Al was the beloved husband of Alice (Rooney) Ceppetelli for 64 years. Born in Stafford Springs, CT on February 15, 1936 to Guido and Alice (Chak) Ceppetelli, he attended St. Edward School and graduated from Stafford High in 1954, where he was a standout football, baseball and basketball player.  Al was a member of Stafford’s 1953 state championship basketball team.  He attended Springfield College before graduating from the University of Harford.  In 1957 Al met Alice Rooney, the love of his life.  Alice had relocated from Vermont to start her teaching career at Stafford High.  They were married in 1959 and lived in Stafford and Ellington before building their home in East Windsor where they resided for 28 years before retiring to Vermont in 1994.

An East Windsor teacher for 35 years, Al ( or Cep as he was best known) taught business courses, while also coaching JV Basketball for 11 years and Varsity Baseball for 9 years, winning conference championships in 5 of those 9 seasons.  He took over the fledgling East Windsor Parks Department in 1962 and over the next 33 years developed, maintained and managed the East Windsor picnic, skating, tennis, swimming, baseball, softball and basketball facilities and programs enjoyed by so many.  The pristine softball field behind his home was his pride and joy and for nearly two decades became renowned for the annual East Windsor softball tournament that drew teams from throughout the state.  The East Windsor Rotary named Al 1974 Citizen of the Year.  He also served 3 terms on the East Windsor Planning and Zoning Commission, and was inducted into the East Windsor Athletic Hall of Fame in 2005.

Al’s retirement years in Vermont centered around his beautiful home where he and Alice enjoyed working together maintaining their 35-acre property on a hill in scenic Johnson, fondly named Awesome View.  Al enjoyed working on his manicured lawn, cutting and splitting wood for winter burning, and helping Alice with their vast vegetable and fruit garden. He relished his daily morning coffee meetings with his local friends down street where there was always a lively discussion of current news events and the local “goings on”. Al enjoyed playing cards and was an accomplished bridge player. As an avid sports fan, he was particularly fond of UConn Men's and Women's basketball and his beloved Yankees.

Admired for his strong work ethic and sense of fairness, Al will be remembered for his quick wit, high energy, kindness, love of family and his enthusiasm for life.

Al is survived by his wife Alice, sons Michael (Martha) of East Windsor, CT, Jack (Mary) of South Windsor, CT and Tom (Jennifer) of Longmeadow, MA, and grandchildren Megan, Francesca, Michaela, Thomas, Joseph and Alana.  He is also survived by his brother Richard Ceppetelli of Ormond Beach, FL.

Visitation will be held at 10 am on Saturday June 22nd at Most Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 301 Brooklyn Street Morrisville, VT followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am.  Burial will follow at Jedediah Hyde Cemetery in Hyde Park.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Al’s honor to Lamoille Home Health and Hospice, 54 Farr Ave, Morrisville, VT  05661, or the East Windsor High School Student Activity Fund, 76 South Main Street, East Windsor, CT  06088.  For online condolences, please visit www.holcomb-desgroseilliers.com.
