Martha Theresa (Wilson) Messier

EAST HARDWICK- Martha Messier, 85, passed away at her home in East Hardwick on Tuesday, November 6, 2018.  She was born April 22, 1933 to Harrison and Anne Wilson of Hardwick.

On February 14, 1953, Martha married the love of her life, Robert Messier.  Together they had four daughters; Denise (and Yvan) Picard of East Hardwick, Jackie (and Gary deceased) Pilbin of Walden, Cindy (and Gary) Rivera and Michelle (and Gilbert) Trujillo both of Del Norte, CO.  She took great pride in her eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren and receiving recent news of another on the way.  Bob and Martha began their married life in Massachusetts and later moved back to Vermont to begin life on the farm. Their lives took many twists and turns having lived out west for many years and eventually returning to their beloved home in Vermont after retirement.

Martha enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, being with family, music, reading, crossword and jigsaw puzzles.  She was involved with the church and played the organ for many years. She took pleasure in monthly lunch outings with the AWOL group aspiring to be the next food critics.  Her doors were always open to family and friends no matter the circumstances. Food was always on the table and music was always playing.

She is survived by two younger sisters; Harriet (and Bruce) Humphrey of Pittsford, VT and Eleanor (and Leon deceased) Tessier of Springfield, VT as well as many nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass was held Monday, November 12, 2018 at the St. Michael Church in Greensboro Bend followed by burial at the St. Michael Cemetery.  The des Groseilliers Funeral Home are in care of arrangements and condolences may be shared with the family at dgfunerals.com.
