Marie Stella Viger

Marie (Richard) Viger passed away peacefully on May 28, 2019, at age 85,  at the Greensboro Nursing Home in Greensboro, VT where she has been lovingly and compassionately cared for over the past 5 years. Born in Rumford, Maine on July 28, 1933 to Antoine and Louise (Daigle) Richard, Marie was raised and educated in Rumford along with her 10 siblings and much extended family.

In 1964, she met and married Andrew "Norman" Viger and spend the next few years living in Germany and traveling in Europe while he served in U.S. Air Force. She particularly enjoyed visiting Paris and the Vatican in Rome. Marie and Norm finished his service living in Idaho and when he retired, they, along with their daughter Andrea, spent a few months camping their way across the United States and back to Rumford. While Marie enjoyed her years of travel, nothing soothed her heart more than returning home to Rumford, where she happily spent most of the rest of her life, surrounded by family and friends from childhood. She was active in the community and church, taking classes, volunteering and belonging to several social and craft groups over the years.

Marie was a talented handcrafter and spent many hours over the years making beautiful crafts. She knitted, quilted, braided rugs, made needlepoint pictures and many, many other things. In her later years, she particularly enjoyed making watercolor pictures and bookmarks with the staff and volunteers at Greensboro Nursing Home.

She moved to Vermont in 2013 to be nearer her daughter and her family once she could not longer live on her own. She came to find many people who loved her in Vermont, but her heart was always in Rumford.

She is predeceased by her husband, Andrew Viger, her sister Lorraine Parise, and brothers Laurie Richard, Raymond Richard, Alyre Richard, Yvan "Fat" Richard, Alphonse Richard and Eddie Richard. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Andrea and Daniel Jones of Walden, VT, her beloved granddaughter Natalie Jones, of Walden, VT, her brother and sister-in-law Frank and Louise Richard of Rumford, Maine, her brother and sister-in-law Joe and Doris Richard of Mexico, Maine and her brother Leo Richard of Laconia, New Hampshire along with many, many nieces and nephews.

Her funeral will be held on June 7, 2019 at the Church of the Holy Savior in Rumford, Maine.
