Helen Fletcher Obituary

 

Helen "Toot" Patricia Fletcher, 87, of Woodbury, Vermont was called to rest on Wednesday, May 27th at the Berlin Health and Rehabilitation Center in Berlin, Vermont.  She was born in St. Johnsbury, Vermont on July 25, 1931 to Daniel C. Cookson, Sr. and Mary Gertrude McGill Cookson. She lived her life in Woodbury and Barre, Vermont and retired in Venice, Florida.

Helen grew up on a small farm in Woodbury, Vermont with her eight siblings.  She graduated from Montpelier High School in 1949.  She married David Fletcher on October 6, 1950 at the United Methodist Church in Woodbury, Vermont.  Helen worked 36 years as a cost accountant for Rock of Ages Corporation in Barre, Vermont.  Her husband also worked at the company as a foreman.  Helen and David retired from Rock of ages and moved to Venice, Florida.  They enjoyed traveling, cruises and visiting family and friends.  After a long happy marriage, David passed away 10 years ago and Helen remained in Venice Florida until last fall when she moved to Vermont to be closer to family.  Helen and David did not have any children.

Helen is survived by her brother Chester Cookson and wife, Judy, of East Montpelier, Vermont, and sisters Martha Foster of Cabot, Vermont, Ruth Rathburn and husband, Clifton, of Woodbury, Vermont, Marguerite Hill and companion, T.C. Sundar of Venice, Florida, Louise (Sue) Foster of Knoxville, Tennessee, sister-in-law Thelma Rodriquez of Hardwick and many nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her brothers, Daniel (Bunchie) Cookson and wife Ramona, Lawrence (Broat) Cookson, and John Cookson.  

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at 1:00 in the Chapel at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Randolph Center, Vermont.  In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Helen’s name to: Calais-Woodbury United Church, P.O. Box 93, East Calais, Vermont 05650. Arrangements are in the care of des Groseilliers Funeral Home Church St. Hardwick, VT.
